Mike Across America

On Sept. 5-6, 2009 I rode in the Ultra Midwest 24 hour cycling championships and rode my bike 422 miles. I was officially given 410 miles as I rode off the course 12 miles and those miles where not counted. I needed to have at least 400 miles – so mission accomplished!!  Now the planning can start for the Race Across America – 2010 which starts in Oceanside, CA on June 9. Having the qualifying done makes my dream a reality.  My crew of  Karen my wife and best friend Dick Beardsley really got me through the 24 hours that at one time seemed to be heading for disaster. After getting lost I was totally discouraged. Dick and Karen kept me from givening up – even when I felt terrible and did not think I would be able to make 400 miles. Lesson learned – never give up when there is still a chance. Stay tuned – definitely more to come.
